It's been a bit of a wait for this DVD release, but the result is easily one of the best music documentaries on the format. There's some great stuff here aside from the interviews, such as rare studio recordings complete with chatter from the band in between takes. Not once in the eleven hours does it become the slightest bit boring, but I guess that's just the sign of a great documentary. Yet, it's even a great documentary for casual music fans to watch if only to see modern music history through the eyes of the band that made it. For a Beatlemaniac, this documentary is obviously a goldmine and is easily the cornerstone of any Beatles collection. The eight episodes pretty much cover the entire lifespan of the group, from July of 1940 all the way up to "The End". Now, the origin of The Beatles is about as well known as the origin of Superman, but that doesn't make the story any less interesting especially since it's coming directly from the members of the band, which also squashes some rumors about them. Over the course of nearly eleven hours, the band tells the story of their origin as only they could. Paul, Ringo, and George recorded all-new interviews for the series, and rare interview footage of John is used for his contributions to the story. Everything is told in the band's own words, as well as a few comments by those closest to them. The Movie Originally aired in the UK in the mid 90's and then shown on ABC in the US The Beatles Anthology is an amazing eight-part mini-series that tells the true story of the most influential band of the 20th Century.
